My Little OMies

“Love the life you live. Live the life you love.” Bob Marley

Today marks the death of the ledgendary Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley. He passed away on May 11, 1981 of complications from malignant melanoma.

I was contemplating what topic should be my next post, when it came to me through one of MY Little OMies.  She had a school project called a Genius Hour Report that she was working on.  The project requires the students to pick a topic on which to study, write about, and present to their classmates.  My heart was full when MY little OMie picked Bob Marley all on her own accord.  While revising the written portion of her project,  I not only learned a lot about Bob Marley,  but was inspired by how much Bob Marley’s music embodies the yogi way.

“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our minds.”

The famous lyrics from Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song.”  A yogi’s interpretation of  the lyrics would be that we need to let go of all the chatter and clutter that crowds our heads.  We are in charge of our thoughts and we have the power to free anything that does not suit us.  We need to clear the mental road blocks s so that we can be present and in the moment.  Once we live presently,  we start to notice all the gifts that the universe has to offer.

Our kiddos and music can be such powerful teaching tools.  Just as we can inspire our little yogis, they can inspire us.  Bob Marley’s music has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember.  His songs are among our favorite summer time hits.  They can be heard at almost all of our pool parties.  They take us away to a care free place where “every little thing is going to be alright.”
